Case Indy Basement Remodeling
Many of our clients come to Case Indy for help in completing the home of their dreams. These Carmel homeowners bought their house in 1998 with the intention of finishing the basement fairly quickly. After over a decade passed, they finally tired of waiting and gave us a call.
Basement Remodeling Goals: The homeowners’ goals were twofold: to create additional family fun and entertaining space, and to increase the resale value of their home. With the unusually tall 10’ ceilings, the basement area lent itself to feeling like any other floor of the home. By bringing the style of the upper floors into the lower level, the homeowners envisioned a true extension of their living space. In terms of eventual resale, basement remodels in the Indy area tend to recoup about 55% of the initial investment. Therefore, blending the needs of the family with a universally attractive design and a reasonable budget were of utmost importance.
Design Phase: The homeowners were heavily involved in the design process, and had an appreciation for the details. The 3-D models of their design options helped them better envision how the space could work for their family. One problem area was the stairwell from the main floor to the lower level, which ended abruptly into a wall and was enclosed by a half wall. The final design added a turned landing, and replaced the half wall with wrought iron balusters, a wood-stained handrail, and exposed hardwood treads. According to the homeowner, “It now has a more natural flow. The lower level is so inviting and comfortable. It has become an extension of our home.”
Maximizing usable space was an overarching design theme for this basement remodel in Carmel. Within the L-shaped layout of the finished space we placed four seating groups, each with a different function. A banquette/table setting designated the game area, the sectional couch with an ottoman set the TV watching area, the stools invited guests to the bar, and the love seat provided additional seating for the bar area. The homeowner noted, “Everyone can see the TV and one another. The multi-functional space is really conducive to conversation and relaxation.”
Family fun was not the only space consideration built into this remodel, however. According to the homeowners, “We also appreciate the storage area adjacent to the finished space. Door access off the stair landing provides ample storage for seasonal decorations and other family keepsakes. Case Indy’s basement remodeling contractors installed extensive shelving to take advantage of our high ceilings.”
Final Result of this Basement Remodeling: The homeowners’ eye for detail led to up-graded finishes that give the space its high-style look. The wet-bar included semi-custom maple cabinets in a soft white paint with a café glaze, and 3cm Cambria quartz countertops in a Windemere color. Modern-style furnishings and light fixtures helped bring the look of the rest of the house into the lower level. And how do the homeowners feel about the end result? “We love the additional square footage we’ve gained. Just like we wanted, the lower level is now our preferred destination for family relaxation.”
Beautiful and functional design, high-quality craftsmanship and finely-tuned project management are what make Case Indy’s clients return again and again for all of their remodeling needs.
